Black Buck Antelope, National Zoological Park, Delhi

Habitat: Grasslands of India, and throughout Europe
Food: Grasses, leaves, buds, and shoots
Weight: 70-85 pounds

Only the males have ringed horns spiraling in a V at least thirty-three centimeters above the head.
Black Buck Antelopes are one of the fastest animals on earth and can out run any animal over long
distances reaching speeds of 45 mph. Open plains, which allow it to move fast, are therefore needed
to protect it from predators. The males darken at maturity and the most dominant male in the herd
has a black coat. Few blackbucks live longer than twelve years, and their maximum lifespan is about
sixteen years.
