In a tradition that goes back over 1000 years, the holy fire is lit from the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The fire is then carried throughout the world. Ethiopian Orthodox celebrate the Holy Fire in the Ethiopian section of the Holy Sepulchre to mark the light of Christ and his resurrection on Easter the next day.
