Some of the statements here are such a sad testiment to what is wrong this whole situation. Messages like Bavani's which are so clearly unbalanced and seem to be based on hate. Yes it is wrong to wall off a border, even if it is for claimed defense. Yes some of what Isreal does is criminal and against the very morales of all religions. However, that does not make the acts of hamas and others right. These cowards are even worse than the Isrealis, they are murderers who hide behind civilians. Instead of fighting fromt eh shadows and hiding behind women and children they should put on uniforms and fight like men. The true terrorists are those that hide as civilians and strap bombs to themselves, maiming and killing innocent children as they go about their lives. Hiding amongst civilians to try and protect themselves with no remorse for those around them who become victims in this horrible war. Both sides need to learn to live in peace. As long as the palestine goveernement allows terrorsits to launch rocket attacks against neighbouring countries there will never be peace.

I wish everyone would not be so closed minded and always against God's nation of Isreal and open their eyes to the real villiany of terror. Amanda: You seem to ignore the fact that only few years ago the Palestinian economy was booming, that peace was on the horizon. You are quick to blame the Israelis and compare the situation to the US. However, in the US the leaders of the black American lead them to non-violence while the leaders of the Palestinians refused to negotiate the final stages of the peace agreement and lead their people to a murderous campaign against innocent Israelis. Have you ever noticed that poll after poll most Israelis want peace and willing to give up land for peace while Palestinians want the destruction of Israel? Was this the case in the US : The majority of whites wanted equality and blacks wanted to kill all the whites?

It is sad to see a country that is promoted as democratic treating an entire group like this. It is even sadder when the people in power had been treated in a simular manner only a few generations ago. It wasn't fair then and this certainly isn't right now. Perhaps, if the palestinian people were treated equally they wouldn't be problematic. But when they can get arrested and have their property confiscated without trial, over 50% unemployment, etc. I can understand them getting a bit overcome by their plight. And we Americans feel sorry for the Israelis? In Israel if a palestinian child throws a rock at the police it is just fine for them to be shot to death by the police. Isn't that a bit harsh? It reminds me of African Americans here. They had to riot in the streets before they were heard. Am I saying children should be allowed to throw rocks at the police or become suicide bombers? No. But I think Americans need to understand the lives of the Palestinians before taking Israel's side as if they are so holy. If a people came into the land of my forefathers and evicted me from my home to live behind a fence, I think I would get pretty upset. The Palestinians were occupying that land for 2000 years when the jews were scattered throughout the world. Now they come back and say the land is theirs? It doesn't seem fair to me, and since they claim a God given right to it, I think they are required to treat all people fairly as having equal rights.

Some people have a problem separating their correct criticism of the government of Israel with their hate for the existence of Israel. The wall is ugly and evoke negative emotions when people look at it and it’s consequences but let us not forget why the people of Israel demanded that their government will put a barrier: to prevent suicide bombers from killing Israeli civilians. Sharon has used the wall to take more land from the Palestinians and true it is crime. Killing Israeli children in restaurants and school buses is also a crime but most “peace activists” never take action against the suicide bombers – these activists are brave when it comes to stand up to Israeli soldiers but would never speak about what Arafat is doing to his own people. The route this wall is taking harming innocent Palestinians but not putting any barrier between Israel and Palestinians will cause in the death of many Israeli school children.

The fence would have been even more effective if it had been constructed along the Green Line which is Israel's internationally recognised border, without causing so much misery to so many Palestinians. Every state has the right to fortify its own border, but no right to create fortifincations deep in the territory of its neighbors.

Jean. You are comparing apples to oranges. The walls you mentioned were geared at keeping people IN - this wall/fence is intended at keeping people OUT (of israel). As you may know, the fence that was built in along central Israel is very effective: The number of terror acts has gone down and most terror moved to Jerusalem where only 30% of the fence/wall is built Yes the fence has a negative effect on Palestinian life but no doubt it already saved many Israeli lives. If you have a perfect solution one that would prevent terror against israelis without harming Palestinians you should propose it to Arraft so that he will use it to stop Palestinian terrorism . So here you have it: Palestinians quality of life Vs israeli LIVE - you choose .....
