Perito Moreno

While most glaciers in the world are rapidly shrinking, this tongue of the great Patagonian Ice Field goes through a cycle of expansion and contraction. We saw Perito Moreno when it was at its longest, reaching the other shore of Lago Argentino and completely blocking a branch of the lake. The rising waters broke the ice dam a month after we left. The last time this happened was 16 years ago.
