In the fall of 1960 I ordered a white 1961 Monterey Convertible, white top, red & white interior on the condition the manufacture would provide a 2 color interior. At the time I ordered, only interiors in one primary color was available. I wanted white inserts in seats and on door panels. Mercury thought it over and decided it would be a nice option. I ordered it with all the options except I ordered a 352 engine. I was a young Army Sergeant stationed at St. Bonaventure University in Olean NY. I am now an old retired Army Sergeant and looking for a similar car in good condition. Any help would be appreciated.

Ken, I had a 1961 mercury just like this one when I was stationed in San Diego, Calif in the Navy. I had it until 1968 then traded it in. I just wish many times I still had that car, It was the best. I just wish there was some way I could contact the owner of that car and maybe purchase it.

I had a 61 Monterey Convertible. Was light blue and white. The greatest car. Traded for a 63 S55 Convertible. It was totaled after I traded. I was sick. Wish I could find another. Ross in Indiana

1961 Mercury Monterey Convertible Coupe. The Monterey series was once again Mercury's premium series in 1961. The Park Lane and Montclair series had been dropped at the end of the 1960 model year. More emphasis and attention were being bestowed on Mercury's successful compact entry, the Comet, and planning was well underway for the 1962 introduction of a new "intermediate" size Mercury called "Meteor". The beautiful black Monterey convertible in Ken's photograph sold for $3,128 in 1961 and 7,053 of these ragtops were produced. The only more expensive Mercury for 1961 was the 9 passenger Colony Park Station Wagon priced at $ 3,191.
