1952 Studebaker Champion Starlight Coupe. The Starlight Coupe, featuring a wraparound rear window from door post to door post, had been a popular model for Studebaker since its introduction on its first new post war design of 1947. 1952 would be the last year for its production, as Studebaker celebrated its 100th birthday with the introduction of a new pillarless two door hardtop in both Champion and Commander series called "Starliner". The 1952 Studebaker's "Clamdigger" grille represented the last facelift of the popular 'bullet-nose" Studebaker introduced as "The Next Look" in 1950. 1953 would bring a totally new Raymond Loewy designed Studebaker, with long, low European inspired styling, that is thought by many to have been the single most important automotive design achievement to emerge from the nineteen fifties. That design later evolved as the Studebaker Hawks.
