I bought my 1942 Mercury wagon in 1977 near San Diego. I was a Calif. wagon all it's life and has zero, nada NO rust what so ever on the original sheet metal. The wagon was all original when I bought it for $2,400.00 in the summer of 1977. I drove it for 5 years before starting a frame off restoration, then we moved to Oregon in 1983 where I put the wagon in dry storage until 1999. The wagon was taken totally apart and a new restoration began and was finished in 2000. I still own the wagon and at this time it is for sale for 150K It is an all numbers matching wagon with less than 2000 miles on it. Village Green factory color, original flathead and 3 speed tranny. Call or Email me for more info. Thanks Dale Fortune Portland Oregon

Hi guys,
Another great photo by Ken Leonard!

This car was restored by Nick Alexander in 2003-2004 for then owner Larry Ginsburg of Laguna Beach. It turned out just as fine (maybe better?) than Nick's own black '42 woodie. The color is the same as my '42 Merc Two Door Sedan and is a correct '42 factory color: "Moselle Maroon". Larry sold the wagon in 2006 to Ford/Mercury collector Ron Thorne in South Jordon, Utah. It is true that there are only 5 original or restored '42 Mercury wagons in running condition at present that we can track down. There are a couple of basket cases in rough shape out there as well. Both Nick's and Larry's were in very rough condition due to rust before extensive and dedicated work by Rick Williams Restoration brought them back to life. Nick's crews finished the original factory wood and total car restoration after the metal work had been completed. They are both fabulous and correctly restored cars of very high caliber. Nick's won a prestigious ribbon at the famous Pebble Beach Conours d'Elegance a few years ago (highest honor in the US).

Anyone owning a stock original or restored true 1942 Mercury vehicle is encouraged to contact me to be listed in the official 1942 Mercury Cars International Registry that I maintain as part of my support for both the Early Ford V8 Club of America and International Mercury Owners Association. It is a non-commercial activity and strictly kept private away from commercial vendors, etc. We need vehicle model type, VIN (frame number), current owner name, color, condition (running or not, restored, unrestored original, street rod, modified, etc.), contact information (email), city, state and country (if outside USA). At present there are less than 40 original '42 Mercurys in running condition in the world that we have been able to track down (including 3 right hand drive cars in South America).

Aren't these grand vehicles!

My father also has owned a 1942 Mercury Station Wagon since 1966. Just finished engine, tranny, suspension, brakes and electrical restoration. Body nice but needs minor body work and paint.

I can recall only seeing 2 of these in SoCal. Believe there are 5 or less in the world and the two here were both restored by Nick Alexander. I do believe this is Nicks car.
