I own 2 - 1959 Pontiac Bonneville convertibles. I've had one for 40 years, was owned by my neighbor who bought it new in 1959. I purchased it from his son. It was in a garage in Oakland California. The other one I bought out of storage 30 years ago. I also have my friends fathers 1966 Pontiac 421 Bonneville convertible dual quads. One of the 59 convertibles is 75 percent restored. It has a 389 tripower original motor, bucket seats and 8 lug aluminum wheels. Getting old and I wish to sell in a group or individually.

I own a 59 catalina tri power sports coupe i believe to be one of the first on the road in 59 it left the factory on the 23,12 ,59 , it had one previous owner in sanose california,i have owned the cat since 1996 the cat has won over 120 trophy,s since 96 and now is having some restoration work done,can anyone help me to find parts to keep this great icon on the road, i live in the uk, my name is Tony Salt ,nick name Mr Pontiac,

Wow, such a great looking 59 Catalina! There is one down the street from me that is a 4 dr hardtop and it looks to have been abandoned or stolen and dumped. It's in pretty good shape and looks to have the original 389 2bl engine, the body is primered black and the top is metallic blue. The floor pans are rusty and have holes, the door panels are rough and it has no headliner but the dash and seats look to be in not bad shape. I was just wondering if someone had an opinion on this car as if it would be worth it to pick it up either for cheap or free? Can floor pans be bought for a 59 Pontiac Cat? How about other repo parts? I have a 69 gto and I know a ton of parts are made for it but I think the earlier cars are hard to find parts for. This 59 looks like it would make a cool cruiser even though it's a 4 dr. If any one has a comment or information to share feel free to E-mail me at chris_mclelland2002@yahoo.com. Thanks!

The year was 1963, and was working in LA between years at the UW. I had made more than enough money to pay for my last two years. my choice was to: 1. Fly Back to Washington; 2. Take a bus, or 3. Buy a used car and drive back. Since I had a P.O.S. car at home, I thought I'd try #3. Found a metallic blue 59 Pontiac Catalina Convert with blue and white upholstery and a white top for $1600. It had 50,000 miles on it, and I wanted it bad. It would have used up 2/3 of my College money, so I left it there and flew home. Been looking for one like it, but it seems there weren't many made in those colors. What a beautiful car it was.

Guest-There is a 59 vert for sale in Raleigh right now on Hemmings. You never know. My dad had one too in Rochester, NY. Been looking for one for a while now.

My father had a red 59 My father had a red 59 Catalina convertible with tri power and 3 speed stick. Almost 50 years later people in Raleigh, NC still talk about it. Sixty mph in low, 100 mph in second and way past the numbers (120) in high. Wish I knew what happened to it after he sold it in 1965 for $250.00.

1959 Pontiac Catalina Convertible. 1959 was the "Year of the W-I-D-E T-R-A-C-K " at Pontiac. It was also the beginning of the rise to the top for Pontiac. It was the year Pontiac introduced the "split grille" and its been a Pontiac trademark ever since. Bunkie Knudsen was the man at Pontiac most responsible for changing Pontiac's image from stodgey, economical, and conservative to that of a performance car with style and pizzaz. The 1959 Pontiac was a stunner. Longer, lower with a split grille up front and small tasteful double fin blades in the rear, and minimal side chrome. The Indian motif was downplayed. Gone were series names like Chieftain and Super Chief. In their place were the top of the line Bonneville series, named for the Salt Flats where speed and performance records were set. Bonnevilles featured just the right amount of performance and luxury in a stylish beautiful car that looked much more expensive than it actually was. Catalina became a series name instead of the name Pontiac had reserved for its hardtop models of previous years. Wide Track was more than just an advertising phrase. The wheels were set further apart and this enhanced the roadability of the car and made it the top road car of the day. Pontiac set a sales record in 1959, and finished fourth in the industry. In the sixties, Pontiac was doing for GM what Buick had done in the mid fifties, and what Oldsmobile would do in the seventies with the Cutlass....it put a medium priced car in third place behind perrenial leaders Chevrolet and Ford. In fact, Pontiac finished third in sales every year from 1962 to 1970. 1959 was just the beginning. In 1964 Pontiac introduced the legendary first muscle car, the GTO. In 1967 Pontiac gave us the Firebird, a serious challenger to Mustang's dominance in the Pony Car league, fielding such performance machines as the "400", the "HO", and ultimately, the Trans AM. In 1969, Pontiac transformed the Grand Prix into a beautiful luxury specialty car with a very potent 428 under the hood of the series J model. Throughout the sixties decade Pontiac had it all: Performance, Style, and Value. Pontiac gave the car buying public everything it wanted at a price far less than one would expect just by looking at the car. One of the most memorable moments I had in high school was driving my German teacher's 1965 Bonneville convertible in the Homecoming Parade. There were other new convertibles in the parade, even Cadillacs. But that long, low beautiful Bonneville was chosen as the car to carry the Homecoming Queen, and I was very proud to be chosen to drive that car with her and her escort sitting regally on top of the back seat.
