Timişoara

The westernmost major city in Romania, Timişoara (Temesvár in Hungarian, Temeschburg or Temeschwar in German) is one of the most cosmopolitan and multicultural urban centers in the country. The unofficial capital of the Banat region, it was also the birthplace of the 1989 Revolution, sparked by supporters of local Hungarian Calvinist pastor László Tőkés (who was under threat of eviction and deportation for criticizing Ceauşescu's policies).
