Kyiv (Київ)

Ukraine's vibrant modern capital, Kyiv (Kiev - transliterated from Russian) commands a position in the heart of the country on both sides of the mighty Dnieper River. Often considered the cradle of Eastern Slavic civilization, it is one of the oldest cities in Europe, once serving as the vast, wealthy capital of the Kievan Rus.
