Khotyn (Хотин)

A historic castle town dating from the early 14th century, Khotyn sits at the northern edge of historic Bessarabia on the west bank of the Dniester River. A small, humdrum city today, it is most famous for its well-maintained fortress, first established in 1400 by Alexandru cel Bun of Moldavia and expanded to its present form by Ştefan cel Mare after 1459.
