Kazan (Казань)

The capital of the medieval, Tatar Kazan Khanate and now the autonomous Republic of Tatarstan within Russia, Kazan is a busy and prosperous city above the Volga Region east of Moscow. Best known for its historic kremlin, the city has managed to maintain a good deal of its historic character, perforated with both mosques and Orthodox churches.
