Built in 1590 by local daimyō Okamoto Munenori, Kameyama Castle lasted only 42 years before its central donjon was dismantled under Miyake Yasumori. While some of the walls and foundations remain in what is now Kameyama-kōen, only the small wooden watchtower, Tamon-yagura - dating from the reign of Honda Toshitsugu (1644-1648) - remains of the original buildings.
