April 27, 2008 - Surprise visitor
Partly cloudy and cooler today, with highs in the 60's expected. I shot this one yesterday of this white-throated sparrow. I don't see many of these at all, and few or any around my feeders. But it is a beautiful little bird.

April 26, 2008 - A Spring Tradition
Warm and muggy today, with storms this afternoon. Highs near 80. It was sunny this morning, but the clouds rolled in this afternoon and storms arose. I shot this one while there was still good light. Dogwoods are a beautiful addition to the spring forest, and I always love the layered look of their flowering branches. I liked the contrast between the flower and background on this one.

April 25, 2008 - Crested Iris
Warm and partly sunny today, with highs in the upper 70's. It's been a very busy week, but I did get off work a little early this afternoon, and discovered that the crested iris patch below my yard was in full bloom. I had originally started out planning to shoot birds, so I used the 70-300 lens. It did very well, I think.
April 20, 2008 - One of the few survivors
Cloudy most of the day today, but a few peeks of sun this evening. Highs in the mid 60's. A cooler day, and I didn't have time to get anything shot today. So I posted this one of what I believe to be either an Anemone or a sharp-lobed hepatica. Either way, they were fortunate to survive the recent freeze.

April 19, 2008 - Apple Blossom
Sunny this morning, then clouding up with showers this afternoon. Highs in the low 70's. I had errands to run today, but had enough time this morning to shoot the apple blossoms that were opening on my red delicious apple tree. It's too early for them to be blooming, so I imagine the frost will get them. But they are pretty.

April 18, 2008 - Golden Ragwort
Sunny and warm today with highs near 80. A beautiful day, and I hurried home from work in time to shoot some wildflowers since it's supposed to rain tomorrow. I shot this golden ragwort, but thought it was interesting as a black and white. They are difficult to shoot because they are on tall stalks that move with a whisper of wind.
April 17, 2008 - Toad Trillium
Warm and sunny today, with highs in the 70's. I've been away on a work trip this week and just got back home today. We had a couple of days of hard freezes, and it took its toll on the flowers. I took this one last weekend of a flower that is relatively rare around where I live. It gets its name from the leaves.

April 12, 2008 - Long-spurred Violet
Warm and sunny today, with highs around 70. Warmer than I had anticipated today, and much better weather than the weatherman predicted. A little breeze was blowing though, which made for difficult flower photography. I did manage to get this one to hold still long enough to shoot it.

April 10, 2008 - Pear blossum
Warm and sunny today, with highs in the 70's. Many flowers are blooming, and, according to the weatherman, cold weather is on its way. So I'm glad I had a chance to get out and shoot for a couple of hours today. These are blooming in my yard.

April 6, 2008 - Trout Lily
Rain very early this morning, then turning sunny in the afternoon. Highs in the low 70's. Finally, some springlike weather. After church, I went up to the place where these bloom. They come out quickly and disappear just as fast. This one had just come out. With a little breeze blowing, it was difficult to get a good clear shot. But this one came pretty close.

April 4, 2008 - Coming out
Rain this morning, but high overcast this afternoon, with highs in the 60's. Perfect shooting light this afternoon, so after I got home from work I went back to the bloodroot patch. They are coming out in full bloom. Unfortunately, the rain predicted tonight will probably beat the petals off the flowers. But I did get a shot of this one before any damage occurred.

April 3, 2008 - Another newcomer
Gray day today, with wind and eventually rain. Highs in the upper 40's. I was in meetings all day and didn't get a chance to shoot, so I decided to upload this one that I took a couple of days ago (when it was warm). I like the detail in this little guy. This flower is only about 4 inches high, and a dime would cover the flower itself.
