In 1999 I was privledged to spend a weekend at Mala Mala, a private game reserve adjacent to Kruger National Park in northeast South Africa. I will never be able to adequately describe the feelings and emotions I had during this very special visit, but I can share the pictures I took.

All of the pictures were taken with a Nikon 6006 fitted with a Sigma 28-80mm zoom lens. They were shot on ASA 200 Fujicolor with the 6006 making the exposure decisions. The pictures were digitized directly from the negative using an Epson 4990 Photo scanner and post-processed using Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0. Other than very few relatively minor adjustments, the photographs are uncropped to give the same feel to the shots as I saw when I was taking them.

I hope you enjoy them. I will be expanding this gallery as I have time to digitize the whole 9+ rolls I shot. Stop back from time-to-time to see what is new.

It may appear to some that there is no real organization to this gallery; in a way, they are right. The pictures are presented in chronological order starting with the Friday afternoon safari and ending on Sunday morning. What you are seeing is the same thing I saw as it happened and in the order it happened. The variety of species that were seen on each outing was amazing and I thought sharing the experience as I saw it was best. I hope you agree.

All of the Mala Mala galleries are dedicated to Geraldine & Peter and Gail & Adrian of South Africa, ardent lovers of the African bush veld. Without them none of this would have ever happened. I will be forever thankful for this once-in-a-lifetime experience and for meeting them, my very special friends from the Pretoria area.
