I have always loved this building, but when scanning the pictures for this posting I could not find my notes. I was not able to identify the building. I searched the internet to no avail; however I found the pBase site of Mr. Dick Osseman (www.pbase.com/dosseman). While I could not identify the building, it was clear Mr. Osseman was very familiar with Turkey, Istanbul and the Topkapi Palace. I e-mailed him and made inquiry. He replied with a high degree of surety that the building was the Library of Ahmet III, but he was not 100% sure. He sought more information from me as to what I had seen before and where the paths to my right and left led. Alas, my aging memory is not good enough to remember. However, I took his suggested identification and went back to the internet. Searching on The Library of Ahmet III I found sufficient sites and pictures to verify that the building is, indeed, the library Mr. Osseman suggested.
Mr. Osseman, thank you for your kindness and for taking the time to help a traveler who also has a special place in his heart for Istanbul, it's history, culture, its people and its architecture and antiquities.
