Kingfishers
Kingfishers are colourful birds but often shy and difficult to see, except as a dash of colour vanishing around the next bend in the river. There are at least a dozen species, and they occur in a range of habitats, not always near water, in both forest and open country. Those living within forest are especially difficult to see, as they will sit quietly through much of the day, in contrast to some of their noisy open-country cousins. (Derek Holmes & Stephen Nash, The Birds of Sumatra and Kalimantan, 1990)

Bee-eaters
This family is found throughout the tropical and temperate regions of the Old World, but us rather poorly represented in Borneo, with three species. (Smythies, The Birds of Borneo, 1999)

Roller
Rollers are robust, heavy-billed insectivores with a powerful and sometimes aerobatic flight. They are found throughout the temperate and tropical countries of the Old World, south to Australia, but only one species has been recorded in Borneo. (Smythies, The Birds of Borneo, 1999)

Hooopoes
This family consists if one species, a flamboyant, crested, earth-probing insectivore which inhibit Europe, Africa, and Asia, but is only vagrant in Borneo. (Smythies, The Birds of Borneo, 1999)
