Camped on Spring Hill

Got into Bunny Flat parking lot about 11pm Friday night after driving up from the Bay Area. Got my shit together and was humping it over Green Butte ridge pass by 11:45. The moon was coming up and the snow was pretty easy to walk by, low power LED on the headlamp (mostly) and no headlamp needed once I got clear of the trees. Got lost in the tree area - a lot of snow melted making it more difficult to see the snow tracks, and I got out too far east. Two thumbs up for the GPS, which made me realize what was up. Was so gorgeous hiking at night I didn't notice how much time had gone by: the moon was nearly full and the snow up the gulch gave everything a luminous glow. You could see people at different points on the ridge by their headlamps. I was originally considering beating myself up and hiking all night to Helen Lake to set up camp and sleep all day Saturday, then decided to sleep on spring hill for a few hours, then hike up and rest to try for a summit attempt around 3am. Didn't use my snow stakes (only normal stakes, thinking I'd be in the tent and it was faster, so no worries about it blowing away), and the wind blew the uphill stakes out and kept bashing the tent wall into me as I slept. Slept well anyway.
