~ I met Dan & Sherrie Inka-trailing in Peru in January 2000, later we skied together at Whitepass / Washington. "Unemployment treats me nice.", Dan said with this special smile in his face when Sonia and I arrived at the Haines ferry terminal, at the end of the Lynn Canal, in Southeast Alaska. It was Sherrie's and Dan's getaway from the highly mechanized, technologically driven society. Not to forget Sula and Grady - two proud beasts of dogs. We are honored and grateful for the insight in their life. We got to know some of Alaska's tremendous scenic variety, its sheer immensity, and its pristine wilderness. I will have to go back - it is a place that provides anybody with many, many opportunities to photograph.
The knowledge that a place like Alaska exists is very comforting. But only with vigilance, Mr. President, it will stay this way.
I was born in Haines, and moved to Cali. when I was 5, although my many cherished memories of Alaska are still vivid. Your beautiful photos bring me back to a place I have longed to return to since the day I found out I was leaving. Thanks. Rena.
