Demonic Race

Name: Demonic
Manufacturer: Roughneck Paintball in conjunction with Freeflow
MSRP: $1000 or less depending on options
Date: 2002
Rarity: *****

For years, I had seen pics of these and discarded them in my mind, completely unimpressed. That was until I saw pics of one up close and saw the details of the milling, in a flash my opinion changed. Demonic #1 is the prototype Demonic #0 and the only one with that milling. All others have the milling like #2. Yes, demonic #2 is the second Demonic built; you can find the number under the grip frame. Neither are eyed, and the Demonic’s came stock with the race frames normally, though an option for other trigger types was available.

The Demonic’s were built by Roughneck paintball and Freeflow, and debuted at the world cup in 2002. The price was a bargain at a mere $1k with custom milling and a raceframe. Roughneck has since closed and the line was very short lived. Initially, lots of 18 were planned, however after speaking to a former tech, he believed only about 13 were ever actually built.

#1 is a nice gun, though it shows a bit of wear and signs of heavy use. As the prototype, it saw heavy Use early on. There’s a few things about it that I plan to change, notably the grips and beavertail, this gun deserves better then clear grips. I'll keep it raced for now, and even if I find a suitable slider, I'll keep the race frame since its part of the gun. As far as milling goes, it doesn't feel as refined as the #2, some of the cuts aren't as crisp.

#2 is the better specimen of the two, nearly mint in every way with only a couple of blemishes that show up on close on inspection. The previous owner had added the little skulls all around it. Where the buttons on #1 show a bit of wear with use, #2 is nearly pristine. The milling on the bottom portion is extremely nice and very detailed and adds a lot to the gun compared to the straight milling on #1. This one also came with a match annoed titanium longbow and the pictured drop. I don't really like drops, so that’s gone. I had planned to get a slider frame and convert this to a mechanical for normal use, but I am reconsidering since it’s such a nice gun and I do have plenty of play guns.

Although it was by happenstance, miscalculation, tiredness and sickness that I ended up with both, I can't really say I am sorry even if it did throw my gun budget all to hell. Both are nice guns, and I'd say anyone looking to pick up a high-end e cocker wouldn't go wrong with one of these. The one thing I really don't like is the bolt, and I'd suggest swapping for an evo style bolt retention system. The old style pins are to long for this so slide back and forth.
