Each of the larger lifeboats in Germany sports an auxilliary boat which can be lowered away from a stern gate as shown here- it can then complete its mission and then return aboard under its own power. The deck above its berth is dedicated to airlift operations. The auxilliary boat is normally crewed by two men and runs at 13 knots
