Yet another cold war idea, if runways were destroyed, certain streches of autobahn were meant to be converted into make-shift airstrips. Those stretches were pre-prepared with large aprons(doubling as truckstops), special markings, paved medians and removable traffic barriers. Additional paraphernalia like RADAR,radio,control and such was made roadable and stored in the vincity. Luckily, these never came into actual use, besides training exercises like NATO's Highway 84.
