Detroit's struggles are known the world over. Poverty. Crime. Drugs. Unemployment. House foreclosures. Water shutoffs. Scandals involving our mayor. An increasing divide between the rich and the poor, between Blacks and Whites. All of this is known. What seems to be hidden is the Soul of the city and its people, people who do not give up, people who form grassroots coalitions to empower the youth, plant urban gardens, help one another transform the systems that are out of balance. Above all, Detroit is REAL. And that counts for a lot.
