On September 1, 2008, Democratic Presidential Candidate Senator Barack Obama came to Detroit's Hart Plaza to speak at the annual Labor Day Rally. I was one of tens of thousands who waited for hours to see and hear him. Because I am physically challenged and use a mobility scooter, I waited in a special line and was able to sit within six rows of the podium. Sometimes it pays to be disabled! I owe a lot to Angela Ekpemogu for helping me make my way through the crowds to find my seat. And the crowd pictures are thanks to Renee Drake who stood on her chair to take them. After waiting so many hours together, we were like family by the time Senator Obama appeared!
