oilbird
(Steatornis caripensis, NL: vetvogel)

Trinidad, Asa Wright Nature Centre

The oilbird is the only fruit-eating strictly nocturnal bird in the world.
It roosts in deep caves and uses echolocation to navigate.
The AWC is one of the most accessable places to see this bird.
On a guided walk through the rainforest we ware allowed to spent a few minutes here.
Bad cicumstances, only some light form the guide's torch, use of flash is off course strictly forbidden.

Remarkable birds, remarkable picture! Did you do this handheld? (1/6 of a second) or with tripod.
I look forward to more pictures from this location. Thank you. / Michael
