The "Varied Twitchers" Big Day Birdathon was a success despite the
weather on Saturday. We saw 157 bird species, tieing our list from
last year. There were many birds we saw this year that we did not see
last year (such as Nashville Warbler, Snowy Plover and Long-eared
Owl) to offset the birds we missed (Belted Kingfisher, Blue-gray
Gnatcatcher, Lawrence's Goldfinch, etc.).
Here are the birds in approximate order of first appearance....(due
to the rain and since I was one of the drivers, it was a bit harder
this year to keep track of when we saw which bird). This list has
been correlated with the lists by Mike Rogers and others on the team.
We all had a great time and are eager to go out and do it again, even
with the sleep deprivation and sore muscles!
I will follow up with a more detailed report and some pictures that I
took throughout the day.
