Barre, Vermont, about 30 miles from my home, is home to many granite quarries and granite sheds - the places where granite is cut, carved and finished. Because of this the cemeteries in the area are full of unusual, imaginative monuments. The cemeteries are not sad places; what I feel as I walk through them is the love that went into creating the monuments. Here are some examples of the quarries and monuments. I have converted the images of the monuments to B @ W because there is little color anyway and I think the forms and texture of the granite is better without color.
OMG! A friend told me about this very cemetery this morning! This reminds me so much of Montparnasse Cemetery in Paris! Thanks so much for sharing this with me Will! :) V
