Solar eclipse of November 3, 2013, Virginia Beach, VA: In that the eclipse was total exactly at sunrise, by the time the sun rose, and then cleared a few clouds, it was partial - as you can see here, about 40%, as the moon slides away from the sun. To have actually captured the total eclipse, sunrise would have had to have been a few minutes earlier...or one would have had to been at sea several miles east. The arrival of the trawler was auspicious, adding depth and dimension to the scene. And fortunately the clouds along the horizon parted just enough. Actually the clouds added more flavor to the image.
