Orange-crowned Warbler

Status: Very rare spring migrant, uncommon in fall, but hard to find, most frequent along the outer coast (Worcester has some 97 records). Rare in winter (at least through the Christmas Bird Count season), again most frequent in Worcester County. Ocean City CBC highs of 4 on 28 Dec 1993 (FN 48:523-524) and 3 on 29 Dec 2002 (Unpub. Summary). First "winter" Worcester record 21 Dec 1952 (OC CBC, S. H. Low, AFN 7:89-90, S&R 1958). Still only five Worcester records for the Jan-Mar period: 1, 9 Feb 1991, Assateague (Blom, MB 47:46); 1, 25 Feb 1991, Assateague/Tingles' Island (Hoffman, MB 47:46); 1-2, 6 Jan-9 Mar 1992, Stockton (M. O'Brien, Hoffman, et al., MB 48:72, AB 46:249, 407); 1, 12 Jan 1992, West Ocean City (M. O'Brien and Hoffman, MB 48:72, pictured below); and 1, 13 Mar 1992, George Island Landing Road (Hoffman, MB 48:97).
