The Ritz theater was built in 1929 and was built spcifically for talkies. It showed primarily first run westerns. It is located on 6th street in the heart of the Austin entertainment district. The theater closed in 1964 due to lack of an audience. It opened again in 1970 and showed adult movies until it closed again in the late 1970s. In 1981 ity opened again as a punk rock club and closed agin in 1982. It was again renovated and opened as a movie theater agin in 2007. Although the sign says "Ritz" outside it is known as the Alamo Draft House Cinema.
