The Corral Theatre in Wimberly, TX

The Corral Theater was built in Wimberly TX in the late 40s as the first (and maybe only outdoor walk in theater in the country.) In 1966 the theater was moved to its current location in the country to make room for a lumberyard in town. Mary Anderson, the current owner bought the theater in the early 70s and has made updates to the projection equipment and installed a larger screen. I had a nice conversation with her during my visit to Wimberly as she showed me around the theater. While not an Art Deco theater it certainly is unique and deserves mention in this gallery. You would think that a small town TX theater would have trouble getting movies but Mary told me she is on a first name basis with all the major studios and regularly obtains first run movies at and charges $5.00 a pop. All in all, it's quite a unique place.
