Serbin was settled by the Wends who fled Germany because of religious and language restrictions. Although living in Germany, the Wends had their own lanquage and were of the Lutheran faith. Attempts to make them speak German and merge with another protestant faith caused them to leave Germany. There are other Wendish settlements in Texas as well. Serbin consists largely of the big Lutheran church,a cabin used by the original church pastor and a Wendish museum to preserve their heritage.
The Plaque documenting the establishment of Serbin in 1854.
