This past week I was on days with Friday off. I knew I was heading back up to Harry's for the week end, but did I really want to get up again at 4am to catch a sunrise on the Parkway? I set my alarm anyhow figuring I'd probably smack it several times starting at 4, then realize I'd never make it up there in time and shut it off and snooze some more. I actually woke up before the alarm went off, so I figured this was a sign and dragged myself out of bed.
I took a look outside and up at the sky and saw nothing but overcast. The Weather Channel was reporting clear - hmmm. Sunrise was at 6:16 and it takes me 45 minutes to get to this spot. As I headed up the mountain towards Mt Pisgah I ran into thick fog - rats. But, right before I reached the Parkway, the fog cleared and I could see the moon. This wasn't good either as I'm thinking I need clouds for a colorful sunrise. But as I reached the first view off the opposite side of the mountain, I could see the thickest blanket of fog I had ever seen filling the valleys below.
