What I was really looking forward to was the hike on Cane Creek Mountain. I saw the hike posted on the Foothills Conservancy web site and had signed up. I know very little about this unique area except there has been a big push to keep it from being developed. Some of the land will be part of the new Chimney Rock State Park. Other sections are managed by the Nature Conservancy.
Our group turned out to be small - Carol, Jerry, and myself. The hike is actually on private land on the property of the Chalet Club. The owners Bob and Anne are good stewards of the land and welcome the FCNC hikers with open arms. The trail we took circled Cane Creek Mountain and has this outstanding view of Chimney Rock Mountain.
