Commissary Trail 1

At a point about 2 miles from the park office where we began the Old Mitchell Trail, the trail T's into the Mountains to Sea Trail. Turning left will take you towards the summit trail, but it's closed while the new tower is being built. Instead, turn right and head down the Camp Alice Trail/MST Trail. This heads steeply down the mountain through a nice stand of Fraser Firs and spruce trees. The trail is in good shape, but it's steep. In 10-15 minutes or so the trail comes down to a road. In this picture, that point is where the sign is. The road in the lower left is the Commissary Trail.

As I mentioned before, an easier hike with some outstanding views would be to start the Commissary Trail at the same park office (not at the summit) as the Old Mitchell Trail. Go to the right side and behind the building to the gravel road. Two miles up is this point. Just past the sign and rock, the road crosses a creek and swings to the right around the ridge towards Camp Alice. There are more views from here, but we didn't go that way this time. I will this coming week end. The views face east, so for photography you'll want to do this in the afternoon. This shot and the next few are from 10-11:30am.
