Greasy Cove Prong 1

Dana, KT and Cathy showed up right on time at the parking area. Today's adventure would be a trip up Greasy Cove Prong in the Shining Rock Wilderness area. Harry and I did it last year, but none of these 3 had. From the parking area near MP417 on the Parkway, we took the Mountains to Sea Trail a short distance to the Bridges Camp Gap Trail, then followed it down to Big East Fork. The rosebay rhodo were in full splendor!

We continued down the BGT along East Fork for about 20 minutes to a camp site at the stream. This is the point where Greasy Cove Prong enters East Fork on the other side. The trail crosses and goes up the left side of the prong, but we just headed up the stream. It wasn't long before the cameras came out.

Oops! Thanks for the correction - that's what I get for typing from memory :( We didn't make it as far as the waterfall this time, but found one farther up the stream last year. Look in my Greasy Cove Prong gallery at the end and see if that's the one you mean.

I think you mean Bridges Camp Gap trail from the MST...to Greasy Cove.
Butter Gap Trail is down by the fish hatchery. Have you followed Greasy Cove to the big waterfall ? about a 30-40 footer above a rock scramble ?
