In the mean time, Cindy worked on the design and shopped for cabinets. To save money, we looked at good quality RTA's (ready to assemble and no particle board). She wanted slab or shaker style in cherry for a contemporary look. We ordered door samples and decided on a Bordeaux Shaker. She double and triple checked her measurements and we placed the order online. This meant the upper cabinets needed to come down and she and I did that one week end morning. Note in this picture that the pantry is gone. We also both thought a beadboard ceiling would look great and decided on Cape Cod Beadboard Planking from Home Depot. The same day we took down the cabinets, we removed the drop ceiling which gave us an additional 3-4" of ceiling height. I took down the tile ceiling on another day - we were now down to bare sheet rock.
