April 25 - Upper Courthouse Creek

This area has been on my 'go back to' list and today seemed to be a good day to do it - Harry agreed. Temps were going to be warmer than usual, but Courthouse Creek is high enough in elevation to cool down the hike by a few degrees. To get to the parking area, take FR140 about 3.5 miles, passing the parking for Courthouse Falls, until it ends at 2 gated roads. Park here and walk the road straight ahead which follows Courthouse Creek (the right one) for 15 minutes up to this waterfall - Upper Courthouse Falls. There's a fire ring at the end of the road - cross the creek there and circle to the left to get this view in front of the falls. The falls is more sloped than it looks here. Since the lighting sucked, we didn't stay long hoping it might be better on the return hike - it wasn't. To continue up creek, cross back over to the fire ring and look for the very steep trail heading up the left side of the creek. A short ways up, a side trail cuts back to the top of the falls. Once above the falls, the trail levels off and is obvious, but is not maintained and not for small children. Clumsy people could take a nasty fall in a few places, so be warned.
