April 11 - Lohr's and Yellow Branch Falls, South Carolina

Never heard of Lohr's Falls?? Well, don't feel bad - I hadn't either. But of course Bernie had because he has Norm Arnold's South Carolina waterfall book and I don't. I had told Bernie I was heading up to Harry's and suggested we go something in South Carolina. Maybe something we had been waiting for good water flow for and something that might have some wildflowers. The waterfall on Yellow Branch in Oconee County had crossed my mind - it's one of the most beautiful waterfalls anywhere. So when I talked with Bernie he gave me the scoop on Lohr's Falls saying it was on a small creek that runs into Yellow Branch not to far above Yellow Branch Falls. This shot is the 30' Lohr's Falls. There are a couple of ways to get here. We took the old trail to Yellow Branch Falls which comes very close to where the 2 creeks meet, then made our way over to the left side of Lohr's Creek where the woods are more open, headed about 10 minutes to a slide area, crossed to the right side, then up the bank and up the short distance to the waterfall. The other way would be to take the new trail to Yellow Branch Falls, head up the trail on the right to the top of the waterfall and continue up to Lohr's Creek. There is no trail up Lohr's Creek to this waterfall.
