Rainbow Falls

The weather people were calling for rain today and they were actually right! The rain came down steady shortly after breakfast so we just lounged around a while. After a while we couldn't stand being cooped up any more any hit the road. I wanted better fall shots of Whitewater Falls and the Horsepasture River waterfalls so we headed down 281 south out of Sapphire. Low clouds were settling in along 281 as they often do on a dreary rainy day. This area really needs the rain, so no one was complaining. I was surprised to find the Whitewater area still as green as it was. We pulled into the parking lot, but decided to skip the hike and went back up to the Horspasture. The rain had let up quite a bit by the time we got to the river. Turtleback Falls looked pitiful with the lack of water and not much fall color around it. AND, a big dead tree with root stubs has washed over the falls and into the pool below near the rope to climb back up. Guess I should have taken a picture, but it was an ugly scene.
