#5 02/08/2004 - Copper Building

Edinburgh, Scotland

This building is nearing completion. It's quite tall and very thin & long - wedged in between a road and an old (disused) railway line. Someone told me once they increased the speed of copper "greening" by pissing on it - a lot of guys must have had a long night drinking!

Nice shot, terrible building! Emperor's new (copper) clothes... an example of skin-deep 'funky' cladding failing to disguise an over-large and really quite dull building. Beyond this daringly-angled corner it's a disappointment - row upon row of little square windows, presumably with little square flats tucked behind. The rear wall gives the game away - a cliff face of 'ice-cream-block' brickwork; not so great a view for the neighbours behind!
But nice photo - the top half on its own is especially striking, with just that great green prow cutting into the familiar gunmetal sky.

What a funky looking building ... what a curious way to make it green! I wonder what they have written on their business card ... ???? LOL

Wouldn't surprise me. I once met a roofer who did this kind of work, and apparently it is a common practice!
