I was reading "Death in Holy Orders" by P.D. James and came across the term "groynes" and Googled it and found your informative site; wonderful. I live high and dry in the Texas Panhandle and so anything about the sea is fascinating to me.

My wife Carole and I were reading a book recently (Come Armageddon-Tathea by Anne Perry) The author wrote about 'the groynes' and when we went to look in our dictionary we couldn't find the word. So I went online and found YOUR wonderful page. I've seen them before but never knew they were for preventing sand erosion. Thanks for the wonderful pictures. A picture truly is worth a thousand words!

I lived in Portobello for 3 years and moved at the beginning of 2007. I miss Edinburgh a great deal and have made the decision to return to this great city, your photos are great and bring back the memories.
