A bear had been lingering near the radar site dump for about a week. I guess he figured it was a good place to hang-out. After all, the “deli” (radar site) delivered food nightly. When word spread, many of the crew were getting their cameras and driving over there to take pictures. I was one of those guys. When I reached the dump, the bear was still there, and lying beside a small lake. Cautiously, I walked to the other side of the lake (sometimes caution is the best option) to take a picture. The photo did not turn out well, to say the least. On my 1970 recording that I sent back home, I stated, “Everybody kind of avoids them when they possibly can." Duh! I have to laugh at my own words whenever I read that! Note how close I got to the bear. LOL!
