The remains of one of the original slave cabins. Tabby construction
is peculiar to the Eastern shoreline of the United States. Oyster Shells
were burned for their lime, which was then mixed with sand and water to
form a type of concrete. Whole Oyster Shells were added to promote drying
and add reinforcement. The Tabby Mix was poured into forms, a layer at a time.
The horizontal lines in the wall mark each layer.
