The project supported by Earthwatch has been carried out scince June 2002 to record butterfly species and individuals at different sites around Tam Dao village at an elevation of 900m a.s.l. The project runs once a month from May to October and the results will be used to assess habitat changes and environmental degradation due to human activities or climate change. The result also look for life histories of butterflies and raise them for conserving butterflies in the park.
What a wonderful experience! I was a member of the last team for 2007. We had several days of rain that hampered our ability to work, but still learned so much. The Tam Dao area is beautiful and the people are amazing -- very warm, friendly, and hard working. many thanks to Lien, Viet, and Anh for their dedication to scientific studies and the Earthwatch experience.

It has been a wonderful experience at Tam Dao with Lien, Anh and Phyllis as Team 1 in May05. I liked Tam Dao and its people very much. The people there are very nice, friendly, kind-hearted and hospitable. I always felt 'at home' away from my home. I will cherish the memories of Tam Dao always. Thanks to Lien, Anh and Phyllis who made the expedition so special.

Thanks to Lien, City Shoe Man, and Viet for the wonderful experiences with Team II in June. The weather was perfect and the butterflies were plentiful. The people in the villiage and in Vietnam in general are kind, gentle, friendly and some of the hardest working people in the world. I have never been treated kinder and with more respect then the by the people Lien introduced us to. I celebrated by 54 birthday in Tam Dao with Team II and will always hold faast to the memories. The work was hard and the heat was at time uncomfortable but worth each mile we walked and each shower we had to take after our walks. I learned so much about the butterflies of this area of Vietnam and about the culture and history of this country from our team leaders. Thanks for the memories.
