Canyon De Chelly National Monument

You can see why the Navajo named this ruin "Where the sandstone reaches the canyon floor". The bottom of this image is approximately where the canyon floor was in 1350 AD. The floor of the canyon lowers on average 18 feet per century, so the contemporary canyon floor is almost 100 feet below that level.
