This juvenile White-tailed Kite called with short muted screeches for over an
hour atop an alder tree near my house. I think it is not quite used to living
and hunting alone and was remembering the easy days of being fed by its parents
in the nest and for a short time after fledging just a few months earlier this summer.
Finally it took to the air. It looks like it's doing OK. Perhaps I scared it off.
After all, a bird capable of seeing a vole in the grass a hundred feet away certainly
saw the creature (me), with one big black eye (the camera), looking at it for who knows why.
