Geoffrey Friedley, Tenor, and Mark Neiwirth, Gravicembalo con Piano e Forte _DSC0260.jpg

Idaho State University

This was an all-Ravel concert at the Jensen Grand Concert Hall at ISU's Stephens Performing Arts Center. "Léon" was a pretty good French approximation to the peacock cry. If you want to hear a real peacock cry, drive up West Buckskin. If you're lucky, you'll hear one or more of the domesticated but free peacocks that somebody up here keeps. And if you're not so lucky one of these might just land on your windshield, as has happened before! The gravicembalo con (or col, to add a definite article) piano e forte is often known as pianoforte, for short, or piano, for even shorter! See http://www.arcobalenodellenote.it/pianoforte1.asp

The company Steinway and Sons, previously known as Steinweg, is a foremost manufacturer of this kind of gravicembali. I recall reading that Mozart commented on the quality of the instruments. Correct me if I am wrong.
