These cute animals are common in the woods of Pocatello. However, few people have ever seen them, let alone photograph them, because they are usually nocturnal. Books will tell you that they are strictly nocturnal, but I've seen one when the sun was still out!!! ISU's squirrel expert, Dr. Don Streubel, claimed that that daytime one must have had health problems. He may be right, but I'd still hold out the hypothesis that it was a pregnant lady squirrel, not necessarily a sick squirrel! I have a picture of that one elsewhere in this gallery.
