Chinese Peak from Home P1010579.jpg

At home, Pocatello, Idaho

Scene with rainbow during a late evening storm. Here's a link to a fascinating story in Shanghai Star/Xinhua about the mountain's name and how it got changed from Chink's Peak to Chinese Peak. Some people thought that the committee involved in the name change agreed on China Peak, but in many people's mind the new name is Chinese Peak. By the way, if you read the story, you will see that it refers to the mountain as "nondescript." I don't agree with that at all, at least not as it is seen from our home! Maybe the dying Chinese man in the legend saw this mountain in better light than did the journalist from Shanghai Star or Xinhua! Perhaps that man, having lived here, understood the beauty of Pocatello better than a visiting journalist from China. This is indeed a magical, windswept place, where even now (2010) you can enjoy fresh air almost every day.
